John Coffin

President

John has spent his 30+ year career advising companies and helping them grow. He co-founded Practical Growth Advisors in 2018 with Emmett Moore. PGA provides strategic advisory and forecasting services to privately held companies to enable them to grow faster with confidence. Through PGA's customized financial and operating forecast platform, we create a dynamic, data-driven roadmap for growth and accelerated value creation. PGA serves private companies up to $500MM of revenue and provides forecasting, data analytics, software application development and capital advisory services.

Prior to joining Practical Growth Advisors, John Coffin was the CoFounder and Executive Vice President of Atlantic Capital Bank. He led the Bank’s Corporate and Private Banking, Financial Institutions and Capital Markets divisions. Atlantic Capital remains the largest startup bank in US history with an initial capital raise of $125MM. Since opening in May of 2007, Atlantic Capital grew to a $3 billion+, publicly traded bank (NASDAQ: ACBI) by executing the core strategy of serving the finance and banking needs of growing, privately-held companies. Atlantic Capital merged with South State Bank in 2022.

Prior to co-founding Atlantic Capital Bank, John spent ten years at Wachovia Bank with leadership positions in the capital markets, commercial and corporate banking divisions. Before joining Wachovia in 1996, he worked in New York in the Media Group at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company, Chemical Bank and Chase Manhattan Bank (through these two mergers).

John earned a BA degree in English from Dartmouth College and received an MBA from Columbia University. He is active in various civic activities and resides with his wife in their empty nest in Atlanta now that their three children are gainfully employed and living independently.
